OKLA. CITY – Many are still undecided in both Corporation Commission races but married men are more likely to vote for Gary and single men for Cloud.
TvPoll.com conducted the scientific study using an IVR technique of 801 likely voters in Oklahoma October 4-5, 2008. The study has a margin of error of ± 3.46% and was weighted by sex, age, congressional district and political party.
In the long-term race between Jeff Cloud (R) and Charles Gray (D), the Republican, again, holds the lead by 5 points. In fact, the Republican candidate has consistently held the lead since Week 1 in each of the four races tested, a common coat-tail effect seen in an election with a President at the top of the ballot.
Despite a tightening race between Murphy and Roth, the campaigning efforts of the Republican and incumbent candidate, Cloud, in the long-term Corporation Commission race may trickle down to help the Republican candidate, Murphy, in the short-term race.
Similarly, voters are not crossing party lines in the race between Cloud and Gray. A majority of the voters who are still undecided (30% of the sample) are Independent but do not describe themselves as liberal in their political beliefs.
A voter most likely to vote for Cloud November 4th is someone who is between the ages of 25 and 34 years, resides in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District represented by Mary Fallin (R), is self-employed or owns a business, is a married man, attends church often and earns an annual household income of $50,000 or more.
A voter most likely to vote for Gray is older than 55 years, resides in Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District represented by Dan Boren (D), does not work outside the home and/or is retired, is a single man, attends church occasionally or never and earns an annual household income of $40,000 or less.
TvPoll.com will continue the weekly tracking poll in Oklahoma through the election for its media client, News9 (CBS-Oklahoma City).
