TvPoll.com conducted the scientific study using an IVR technique of 766 likely voters in Oklahoma October 31 – November 2, 2008. The study has a margin of error of ± 3.54% and was weighted by sex, age, congressional district and political party.

More Oklahomans voted for the Presidential race than the race for US Senate and both Corporation Commission races. Many voters left the US Senate race blank on their ballot; this race received the least votes.

Republicans were victorious in Oklahoma and, for the first time in the state’s history, the State Senate will have a Republican majority. Furthermore, all three Corporation Commission seats are now held by Republicans.

Beyond races, TvPoll.com also tested policy issues as well as election fraud in Week 9. Approximately 2/3’s of the likely Oklahoma voters polled chose John McCain as the best Presidential candidate to handle both the Economy and foreign conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

44% believe that race relations will worsen if Barack Obama was to be elected President.

Only a little less than a fifth of respondents revealed that they were not confident that their ballot would be fairly counted but, 80% were concerned that the Presidential election would be impacted by election fraud.

OKLA. CITY – About half of Oklahoma’s Democrats are in favor of McCain, regardless of negative advertising. Inhofe holds a steady double-digit lead for US Senate and undecided voters for the short-term Corporation Commission race dropped from 30% to 25% three weeks out.

TvPoll.com also tested political trust to help resolve foreign and economic conflicts in Week 6. Respondents were slightly more likely to choose the Republican Party as the trusted party to handle the current economic crisis but much more likely to choose this party to handle conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Aside from trust, TvPoll.com also tested the influence of negative advertising. 85% of likely voters responded that such advertising has made them more likely to vote for the candidate they already had in mind and the same holds true for Democrats planning to vote for McCain.

OKLA. CITY – Oklahoma is somewhat divided over the recent $700 billion bailout legislation but most do not feel it should be funded by tax-payers, the spread between US Senate candidates may be narrowing and many are still undecided in both Corporation Commission races.

TvPoll.com conducted the scientific study using an IVR technique of 801 likely voters in Oklahoma October 4-5, 2008. The study has a margin of error of ± 3.46% and was weighted by sex, age, congressional district and political party.

Week 5 provides a new political window overlooking the national corporate bailout. A little less than half of the Oklahoman voters polled oppose the $700 billion legislation while a fifth are unsure how they feel.

TvPoll.com also re-polled the LA Times question, “Do you think the government should use taxpayers’ dollars to rescue ailing private financial firms whose collapse could have adverse effects on the economy and markets?”.  A little more than two-thirds of respondents do not believe the bailout should be funded by tax dollars and a similar fifth are unsure.

A majority of those who support the bailout feel it should not be funded by tax dollars and 8% of those who oppose the bailout feel it should be funded by tax dollars.

Respondents who support the bailout are more likely to characterize their political beliefs as liberal, be younger than 35, be employed part-time and be a single woman.

Respondents who oppose the bailout are more likely to be an Independent and/or conservative, be between the ages of 35 to 55, work full-time, be a married man and are not likely to attend religious services.

Inhofe holds a steady 20-point lead over Rice each week. Rice, like Obama, is finding little support in the 3^rd OK District represented by Lucas (R), but is finding more support this week among high income earners and those who do not attend church. The race for Corporation Commissioner may be unpredictable; many are undecided.

OKLA CITY – In the most recent survey of likely voters in Oklahoma, McCain holds a 38-point lead; plus Republicans further down the ballot are enjoying McCain’s lead including Corporation Commissioner Republican candidate Dana Murphy who is ahead of Democratic incumbent Jim Roth. The results also seem to indicate that Oklahomans are upset about negative Palin media coverage and believe McCain can fix the economy.

This poll asked one question, among many others, that allowed respondents to express their primary concerns in the current presidential election. “Which of the following issues is most important to you when deciding who you will vote for in the upcoming presidential race?” is how the question was worded in the poll. The answer options provided were: the war in Iraq, immigration reform, the economy, traditional values or the personal traits of the candidate. The most pressing issue appears to be the economy because 31% responded in this fashion. Another important issue expressed was the war in Iraq with 24% of the responses.

At the end of this instrument, respondents were also asked a series of demographic questions including gender and political party identification, among others. Of the males who participated, 25% claimed that they believe the war in Iraq was the forefront issue. Not only did the opinion of the females who participated differ, a greater proportion of this group shared this differing opinion. Thirty four per cent of females believe that the Economy is the most important issue in this election.

This study also compared how people of each political party responded to this question. It seems that the Democrats closely mirrored the females polled. Thirty nine per cent of this polled party claimed that the economy is the major concern. Independents share this same belief by responding with 48% and Republicans showed that traditional values vastly affects their primary election behavior with 28%. The economy is the prevailing issue than many feel is important.

Although some of these groups overlap since a male can also be a Democrat, for example, it may be important to note that three of the five groups just described expressed the economy as the most important issue when deciding on who to vote for as President. The largest gap and, perhaps, the strongest opinions existed among the different political parties with the Independents voicing the strongest opinion about the economy.
